Mason's middle name is Trouble!

and he KNOWS it! lately when he's got something he shouldn't have- (for example somehow he manages to get his hands on Gavin's earpiece for his phone) I'll catch him and say, "Mason! WHAT do you have?" What's his response? He sticks it in his mouth, turns and high tails it! His immediate reaction is to run! (GREAT!) this morning I feel like i've been running in circles around with him! Usually I'll get a good hour worth of computer work in while he quietly plays. NOT today! I got up to go to the bathroom (while he was quietly playing and not even noticing me), (gone 20 seconds max!) and I come back and he has this evil grin on his face like he has the whole world in his hands, but really, JUST my laptop! (but he sure could do enough damage with it!) as soon as I wrangle it from his hands he pitters off and runs for the dogs bowl of water. When I manage to get him to leave that alone (thank goodness he doesnt knock it over anymore, he just wants to play in it!, i think he just taunts me.) he SCANS the room for what trouble he can make next. I think the next one involved my laptop charger, then he decided to FEED the dogs his breakfast. Then he decided he in fact wanted his breakfast so he threw his hot wheels at the dogs! (bad Mason!) UGH. I think we'll be leaving soon to distract him someway!

This sweet and cute innocent look has us ALL fooled!

I think we're getting somewhere!

Last night was another good night. Mason only woke up at 9:30 pm but that was because Gavin was up in the attic and I think he accidently woke him up- so he CIO for about 5-10 min. max and then woke up at 7 am! He wasn't as happy as he usually was when he woke up this morning- but he did seem kinda grouchy today, so not sure what that was all about! BUT bottom line- he stayed in his bed for 5 nights straight! woohoo! and TONIGHT, I didn't even rock him to bed. I started to, but he was wide awake and didn't seem tired quite yet. So i put him in his crib, turned on his night light and his crib aquarium. He laid there for a bit just watching it and cuddling with his new lovey (my old black tank top- well its not so much a tank top anymore, i cut off the straps so he cant tangle himself in them.) I left the room and after about 5 minutes he started crying, so I let him cry for about 5 minutes then went in to comfort him, i let him hug on me for a minute while he stood in his crib, then laid him back down, gave him his lovey and just rubbed his back- he was out in less than 2 minutes! sweet! OH i look forward to the day that we just LAY him in his bed and thats it!
So we ARE making progress- he's only had 2 night time bottles in the past week- he's slept in his bed the full night the past 5 nights! Horray- in the next 2 weeks we're going to work on cutting out his naptime bottle and then after that we'll work on the bedtime bottle ! Dr. O said to cut it out by 18 months for good- so we've got 2 months left to drop it! yikes! thats the one I feel we'll have an issue with !

Sleep training :-(

Last summer Mason was sleeping GREAT! We would rock him to sleep, but he'd sleep 10-12 hours straight at night. Then labor day weekend he got sick. Then it was downhill from there thru the fall til he had his ear tubes put in and adnoids taken out late November. He had so many ear infections in there he'd wake up at night from pain, so the only way to get him back down was tylenol and a bottle. Sometimes it was several wakings at night. FINALLy we had relief after his surgery. THEN the bad teething started and sometimes he'd wake up so restless at 3 am- so the only solution was to let him cry for a few minutes which would wear him out enough, but he'd only go back to sleep IN our bed. (okay for Gavin, but NOT for me!)
So a few weeks ago, I decided I was tired of being tired all the time. ALL the time, I was complaining I was tired. Granted I am running after a 15 month old, but I should still have more energy after 8 hours sleep. Then I started thinking about my quality of sleep. I LOVE our bed, so comfy, but why don't I sleep good? Hmm, easy!
#1- dogs in the bedroom. Shelby would jump on the bed in the middle of the night several times and always have to touch me, so it'd wake me up. I go back to sleep easily, but it still wakes me up. Their nails clicking on the wood floors DRIVES me nutty and when they want to get up at 7 am (not me!) they start walking all over and it wakes me up AND mason. SO ENOUGH of that. Dogs OUT and the door is SHUT!
#2- Cats in the room! So for the few nights after the dogs being out of the bedroom- i let the cat stay in and sleep with us (okay really me, they could careless about sleeping with Gavin) Sanuk really doesnt care about sleeping in the room, its mainly Sabai. He sleeps in my right arm and will sleep there all night. So poor guy, he's been booted now too.
#3- Mason in our bed! for months he's been coming into our bed at 4 am. He snuggles up next to me which is sweet and I sleep fine because i LOVE cuddling with him, but its not my deep sleep I need. He moves around so much and kicks and flails around- so HE's BOOTED OUT!
So for the past week I've been SLEEPING WONDERFULLY and getting the quality sleep i DO need in my 8 hours, I've been feeling so much better and much more energized in the mornings.
Mason on the other hand- is doing okay. Not great- but not bad either. We started it friday night. He woke up at 1:30 am and we started the CIO (Cry it out). After 5 min, i went in, comforted him (not taking him out of the crib), went back after an additional 10 min, and again after another 15 minutes. In the end, he cried for an hour and 20 minutes. poor kid just didn't understand. What helped, was I gave him my tank top I was wearing. Its the soft t shirt he likes and it smells like me too. So that helped him go back to sleep. Woke up in his bed happy in the morning. (yeah!!!) Saturday night, Gavin (bad daddy!) took him OUT of the crib when he woke up at 2 am- changed his diaper, fed him a bottle and then put him back in his bed and he went to sleep on his own, no crying. (okay, thats great- but bad for taking him out!) I dont feed him a middle of hte night bottle anymore, and I'm trying to get Gavin to STOP!! Sunday night, Mason did great- never woke up. sounded like it a few times, but went back to sleep on his own every time. WOOHOO! Thats exactly what I want!! Last night, different story. He woke up around midnight- so we started the CIO. Gavin went in to comfort him after 10 minutes (after i told him to NOT take him out of the crib) and when I went in, WHERE was he??? OUT of the crib! ahhh!!! So since he screwed it up, I changed his diaper and then Gavin fed him a bottle IN his bed. (Ahhh! NO!) So we're making small steps on getting him to stay IN his bed. I know before long he'll be climbing OUT of his bed and we'll have to move onto a big boy bed, so I'm really trying to enforce the sleep training! Maybe the sleep training is more for Gavin! NEXT thing- cut OUT the bedtime bottle!

Spring Break!

Most people love the idea of spring break. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE spring, but i wouldnt say I LOVE the idea of a week of no pre school, normal work week, but pile on 20 ga-zillion consultations and appointments with teachers and college girls both planning weddings, trying to keep my house in order, keep a 15 month old entertained INDOORS for 2 days straight while it pours down rain outside WHILE my hubby has a HUGE framing order and has a deadline at the end of the week, top that off with TWO holidays in one week, 2 weddings, an ever growing pile of laundry and trying to keep a sense of normalcy can wear a girl OUT! Its only friday and i'm exhausted! Amy, Chris and Josh headed out to California for THEIR lovely week OFF of spring break, oh I wish I could have done that, but I definitely would have come back to major chaos. I Can't wait to see Mason's teachers again on tuesday, just so I can get some organizing done at the office and give my brain a rest finally AND i can't wait to see the maid on Wednesday!
I think I handled my chaotic week fairly well, (although, this next week is starting to look the same unfortunately!~) Monday was filled with picking up around the house and NOT going to the arboretum (booooo!) Tuesday was chores and errands despite the rain. Wednesday, Heidi, Conor, Mason & I tried out "Pump it up" in Grapevine, and i think it was just a bit too old for Mason's age. He wasnt diggin' it at all, and it was too much work for me luggin' him around the bounce houses. The rest of the day runs into a haze of craziness and really just blends into today! LOL This afternoon, I cut out of work early since Sunday's weather is supposed to be a bit cold, Heidi, Todd, Conor, Mason and I headed to the park for a easter egg hunt! Conor was a pro at egg huntin' (I think he's been practicing!) Mason finally caught on, but also enjoyed the easy way out of stealing poor Conor's eggs! We had a nice time and it was nice to take a break out of my crazy week! We kept the momentum rolling after and raced off to an early church service (but mixed up the times! oops) so we met up with Kristin, Jesse, Lucas and Baby Asher for some din din (wow, thats total mommy talk! lol- which was heard ALOT of at dinner by kristin and myself sadly!) haha and THEN we finally made it to church for a great Easter service. Great way to finish off the night. I thought i'd be in bed early since I've got a wedding set up tomorrow, but i've been too busy bloggin' and enjoying the few photos from this week!

Mason enjoying Gymboree on Monday

Doing what he loves the most at Gymboree- climbing!

BAD Daddy! Mommy caught him not using a BIB! It was obvious when I got home to see Mason's shirt, but there's evidence on my camera!

Mason in the bubble at the park

Yes, the boy loves dirt.

Okay, I can get the hang of this maybe!

Conor is the pro!

Mason likes taking the easy way out, take Conor's eggs, take Conor's sippy, take Conor's food, poor Conor! Thank goodness, he puts up with Mason and holds his own!

Lazy Sunday

Okay, so maybe it wasn't lazy for me- but we didnt have anything to do or anywhere to be! What a nice day! In Fact, yesterday was just as nice. Mason and I went to church last night since Gavin was off shooting a wedding, so this morning I thought we could hit up Grapevine Mills Mall to get Mason some knit footed sleepers and find me an Easter dress (success for both!) before the masses hit the scene! So we managed to get in and out with no parking issues, wander and shop with no lines! (it was actually quieter than during the week!) I must say, I'm a Genius Mommy. Mason has been getting bored in the stroller (shopping carts too!) so I thought I'd take his red push car- SCORe! that was a great idea of mine- Mason enjoyed our shopping trip, he drove the whole time and honked his horn at people- and i was happy too because I could shop! After our fun mall trip, we hit up the grocery store and headed home for lunch and then Mason surprised me with a NICE 3 hour nap. That was much appreciated! Gavin decided to work on the new fireplace mantle he's building so after Mason's nap I decided it was a good day for the park, we took a detour and headed to Granma & Granpa's since Mason hasnt seen Granma Dee all week, Grandpa Tony headed to park with us and a nice walk. They have some beautiful irises and lily of the valley blooming in their yard, so i thought it'd be a great chance to snap some pictures of the boys!

I was born in the wrong Month...

How is it I'm a winter baby? i HATE the cold, dreary, blundery winter days. (I AM a true Californian!) I LIVE for sunshine and beautiful days!! I really think, I was meant to be born in March, beautiful weather (okay, not so much last week!) colorful flowers, green beer-- I was meant to be a March Baby!
I guess its reassuring that being a native Californian (a Long Beach Baby) I can almost guarantee that it was a beautiful day the day I was born in CA...not to mention there's beautiful flowers year round there! (jealous!) so maybe I just need to blame my SoCal beach bunny self for hating the dreary winter weather. Thank goodness for crazy Texas winters. Last Friday we were wondering if we would have a snow day. This friday, it got up to 86 degrees! INSANE!

New Vocab

few things Mason has added to his vocab this weeK:

"Moh" Mason's language for "more" usually in terms of food and beverages- usually mine. Kristin showed him the sign for 'more' and he picked it up right away!

"Bye" when I want him to follow me, especially out of a room, I tell him "buh-Bye, I'm leaving!" He now responds with- when he doesnt WANT to follow me, he just responds with "Bye." LOL

When he knows we're going bye bye- he waves and says "Dada" because apparently Dada is going Bye Bye alot lately! LOL

"ouuuuh" in Mason's language means Out. With the weather being amazing lately we spend ALOT of time outside- so if he sees his electric car, push car, or wagon- he immediately wants in it and says "oouuuuh!"

Animal sounds:
For a while now, Mason has made these 2 animal sounds:
"Aaaaaaah" is what our Kitty Sabai Says- he doesnt meow like normal cats, he cries!
"fufff" is what our doggies say, because they 'ruff' under their breath- they dont bark in the house, so our doggies "fuff"
New ones as of this weeK:
"Ba- Bok" is what chickens say! he's funny with this one- he struts around and says "BOK! B-BOK!"
"ew" is what cows say. Maybe he is just saying cows are ew. because they do smell ew! LOL

4 teeth in 3 days....

this was ROUGH! Wednesday morning Mason woke 2 hours later than usual (very very Odd for him) I actually woke him up because we were supposed to meet friends at the park- after I fed him and was about to get him changed, he threw up his breakfast all over me (yum, thanks.) after that it went downhill, fever of about 99-100.0- he threw up twice more between sleeping on me all before noon. He took 3 naps that day (slept about 5 hours all together- ONLY on me of course) sleeping that much AND sleeping in late is VERY strange for him. He became pretty irritable and didn't eat much thru the day, but by the afternoon he seemed better. (????!) we even went for our evening walk and he seemed perfectly happy. Yesterday was better, no throwing up, not as irritable, but we kept him from school anyway just in case. his fever was still there but lower than wednesday. Today was nightmare again! threw up on me, fever and cried for almost 2 hours before the tylenol seemed to finally kick in (after a little extra dose) as well as Orajel and teething tablets...take a peek in his mouth and you'll see FOUR new teeth (the cuspids) all I can say is DANG those teeth are sharp!! THey're like puppy teeth!! All I can say is- after these teeth finish cutting- WE ARE DONE WITH TEETHING! I don't think there's another child out there that has as little of a pain tolerance as my kid! dang, I just pray kiddo #2 will have it easier! No more teeth until he gets his 2 year molars! WAHOOO!!

15 Months & just like Daddy

A few weeks ago Mason started doing this funny thing where he would get his sunglasses, put them on his head, then sit back and wait. I finally figured out he was waiting for a reaction out of me, but he was also doing what Dada does! Gavin is literally LOST without his sunglasses, either they're on his head, shirt or face. So Mason was just doing what Daddy does- wearing them on his head. But its funny that he WAITS for your reaction and then he gets silly.
Funny thing, on Friday- Mason and I were up, dressed, fed, out the door to school and I was at work way before Gavin woke up for the day so he never saw how I dressed Mason that morning- when we came home that afternoon they were dressed so similar, then Mason went to get his sunglasses and put them on because Gavin had his on his head.
Double Trouble!

Stylin' Mason

Now all Mason needs is an ear piece & iphone! LOL

Showin' off....with his fly down..LOL

My Monkey

I walked out of the kitchen the other morning to find Mason just chillin' in the Cats' chair in the sunroom. He was just sitting there enjoying the sunshine relaxin'. (way different than all other mornings!)

Bradford Pears in the Snow

Our bradford pear trees have been blooming and look beautiful! After it snowed, they looked even more picturesque!

Standing in our front yard just after all the snow with EVERYTHING covered in white, it almost looks like a Black and White photograph, except for our American Flag on the front of the house. Wow, those colors stand out SO much more in a white world!

White Stuff in the Sky!

In Texas generally we get a few ICE days per year, this year TWICE in one week we got this white stuff that's very different from Ice- its called SNOW! Its not a common occurance here! Boy did we get snow! Monday night it came and went just as fast (but stayed just long enough for me to ambush Gavin with a snowball fight!) and then Thursday we just got dumped on! We got just a little over 2" but just west of us some of our friends in Decatur (just about an hour away) got 9" of snow! I think that's a record for Texas! LOL it was beautiful!! On Thursday afternoon when it started, I picked Mason up from school and on our way home he just laughed and laughed at the snow fallling in HUGE chunks! at one intersection, I rolled down the window and got a chunk of snow for him to eat (he LOVES ice cubes) and after that all he did was ask for more to eat! So when we got home, I bundled him up in 4 layers (since we dont have any snow gear- not even gloves!..Bad Mommy!) so we went out for about 2 minutes outside. All Mason did was want to eat the snow before he realized it made him colder, then he didn't want to have anything to do with it since it was so cold! I got a few shots for his first fun in the snow!

Snacking on Snow

Okay, I'm done- its too cold!!
