Happy Birthday GiGi

Today my Mom would be 57 years young. We probably would have celebrated by going to lunch and doing some shopping then dinner with the family, but we're not & I'm left with imagining how it would be. We know you would have been an amazing Grandma because you were such a great Mom. We miss you.

Cures

Head & Shoulders Dandruff Shampoo cures Cradle Cap (Mason has had it bad since 2 months and its FINALLY getting better!) DONT try olive oil, vegtable oil or baby oil- tried it all and NON of it works!

Cortizone Cream cures Baby Eczema - well doesnt cure it completely but it helps TONS!

Oatmeal soap cures dry skin (and smells good too!)

Other peoples screaming kids at Target cures Baby Fever.

Your own baby laughing cures any bad day!

Thinking of Storms....

My sweet friend Gina always seems to send me nice devotionals just at the right time regarding the right topic. I might have something going on in my life and funny thing she'll send me an email out of the blue with a nice devotional or bible verse that just really hits the spot for me!
The one she sent me this last week I think everyone can relate to at some point in their life whether its getting caught up in work, family or just caught up with life!

When you feel overwhelmed, fearing the waves that
are headed your way,

Turn to Jesus and allow Him to calm the seas of
your life.

Darkness flees and trembles at His name, and He
can conquer the storms that

Threaten to conquer you.

If I am for you, who can be against you? He
whispers through the rain.

He is the Calmer of the seas, the Prince of
Peace. Let Him reign.

I thought this was such a good verse to post- i always try to tell my friends (specifically Sara & Kristin) quit worrying, pray about it & just give control to God- it's amazing how things might turn out! "If I am for you, who can be against you? " This quote reminds me so much of my Mom, she used to quote that to me alot. I think my Mom was the one who instilled in me to just give up all control & let God work his plan- I think she's happy to know I still follow her directions! :)

Veggie Guru.

So far in the past 2 weeks, we've been slowly letting Mason try different baby foods. He loves his morning cereal and gobbles it up. Late in the day we'll have another serving of solid foods- so far he's tried-
Sweet Potatoes (LOVES them!)
Prunes (so far another favorite!) -which Mommy likes too- they keep Mason 'regular'.
Squash- he's not so sure about squash so far- he's only been on it for 2 days so far, so we still have a few days left on it before trying anything new. I think next we might try bananas!

Since starting Solids Mr. Mason has been sleeping SO MUCH better as well! What a relief! The week before going to see Dr. Ohmen for Mason's 4 month shots he was up so often at night its like no matter how much we fed him, it just wasnt satasfying him. Being on solids now he seems so much fuller and much more content at night! For the past week & half now he's been sleeping in longer & longer stretches at night (thank god!) and last night finally he slept 8 1/2 hours straight!!! woohoo Mason! We attended a friend's wedding last night & I came home & fed Mason & put him down to bed about 9:30 pm(way past his bedtime!) he was so tired he zonked right out- and slept til 6 am! Gavin got up to feed him at 6 & Mason went back to bed til 9 am! Now i wish I only went to bed sooner (1:30 am i finally crawled into bed!) After SUCH a long weekend (busy & crazy with my work) i deserved a good sleep (thank you honey!) but i still could have used another 12 hours sleep!

for a while at least! Mason loved his Jumparoo so much i thought hmmm....since we have all wood floors I bet he'd love to scoot around before long! So far he has only figured out how to scoot backwards. and he LOVES to chew on the toy bar. apparently it tastes REALLY good. He already drools alot- with this thing there is seriously a puddle of drool on the tray after playing! Oh my goodness...the DROOL. who opened the floodgates? LOL
Speaking of "LOL" just an fyi for those internet chat/lingo challaged (TIffany) LOL means 'laughing out loud' not "lots of love" hahahaha!

One Year.

It just dawned on me that one year ago today (actually tonight) I found out I was pregnant! (I'm good with remembering dates like that)
How strange a year later, and I have the cutest happiest baby boy! Of course my reaction to my positive test result was "It must be broken! It says I'm pregnant!" When I ran upstairs to Gavin's office to throw the pregnancy test on his desk (probably not the ideal way to break the news to him!)- his reaction was "Well okay... (pause) (pause) (pause)...Cool!" I think I rambled off and yelling, no its not cool- this isnt in my plan! So funny to think "it wasnt in my plan". There's a song I love by Rodney Atkins that says, "If you want to hear God laugh- tell him your plan" SO TRUE! MY plan? what was that? I wasnt ready to be a Mom, I was having too much fun working my rear end off, going out every weekend with friends, and several nights each week. I was NOT a homebody, I was a busybody! I was constantly going going going! WHen Gavin & I first got married we said we'd like to wait about 2-3 years before having kids (perfect timing! LOL) well before I got pregnant we talked kids again and I said, 'maybe another 2 years'. I really think if I hadn't accidently gotten pregnant- we wouldnt have had kids with going in the direction I was going.

WOW has my life changed.

Work is still crazy and busy- but I'm not a busy body anymore. I'm a homebody. WHen I'm not at work, I'm with Mason. when I'm not with Mason- I'm at work! Gavin and I are still the same, but I think we have a whole new level of respect and admiration for one another. I do think that Mason is one of the best things I've been blessed with (besides my family & Gavin) having a baby makes you appreciate all the small things. I never knew I could love something so much! Yes I love Gavin to the ends of the earth, and I love my dog with unconditional love, but I never imagined how much I love that little man! And I think that grows everyday too.
I think God intended for Mason to slow me down and to be able to see and experience all those little things thru him, apparently I was passing them all by way too fast. With having him, I've learned that I'll work faster on a nice day just so I can rush home to be with him and sit out in the grass and play with him, I'll get up early even after going to bed way too late, just so I can be with Mason in the morning when he's playful and acts his silliest. One thing I've learned that I think is most important is enjoying Mason's smile and laughter and to see how his eyes light up when I walk in the room and call his name- when he smiles at me and laughs when I shower him with kisses- everything else important or crazy in my life --just melts away! Children really are a true blessing and teach you so much more than you could ever imagine!

New Project

We also have a new project going on- the sun room which is also my current office (which is never used) really all its used for is how we get outside to let Shelby potty & to go into our Master Bedroom (it connects our bedroom to the rest of the house off the living room)- so we've decided to sell my big bulky desk (anyone interested?) and we're going to install some cabinets & counterspace to hold craft stuff and toys for Mason so he'll have a play area. We're going to make it kid friendly so when he's big enough to play with his toys and make a mess, all we have to do is close our bedroom door & put up a baby gate & he can go to town with all of his toys and make any kind of mess he wants! the counter space will be good when he's even older and he gets interested in arts and craft type stuff (cant wait for that!) So i can't wait for the room to be finished. So here's the 1st picture of transforming the room- on one wall we have this cabinet to hold all of Mason's books and where we can have baskets to store away his toys (outta sight!) I can't wait to post pictures when we finally have the cabinets installed (hopefully it'll be finished by the beginning of the summer!

Room upgrade!

Mason's room went thru a small room upgrade yesterday- really he just got a new dresser- but what a difference! Before it was a taller & more narrow dresser- the new one (thanks to ikea!) is wider and longer, and right at the perfect height too! So we are able to get rid of the end table that the stereo sat on and also the really small table that held only the wipe warmer. Essentially, it got rid of some clutter!
Yes, Gavin STILL needs to paint the white shelf on the wall. I see it every single day and it STILL drives me crazy. Maybe it'll get painted before Mason goes off to college! haha!

Typical Parents?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Do typical parents take pictures this much? Seriously? We've now noticed EVERYTIME the camera comes out, Mason has learned to stare straight at the camera! I'm not kidding, he doesnt look at the flash, he looks straight at the lens and its not like we jump up and down to get his attention, apparently the camera is enough!

Mason's new hat...

(Mason looks like he's about to sneeze in this picture- probably was!)

I love this little hat. It doesnt quite fit him, its meant for 6 months & up, but its just too cute on him anyway! Everyone says how cute it is and how he looks like a little old man when he wears it! LOL
I say he doesnt need the hat to be cute- it just adds to the cuteness factor! haha!
I've also learned today that cute babies are not good for their Mom's ego. (HAHA!) After church today, Granma & Granpa McNosky were showing off Mason & everyone was saying "He's SO cute, he looks like you!!!" "He's so Strong!" "oh so sweet, look at that smile!" "oh she must be a good mom" LOL having a cute & good baby is not good for your ego! I guess its the babies job to keep us in check! LOL

A week late....

Happy Easter! LOL
I've been meaning to post our Easter Pictures- it was supposed to be outside but it was a bit cold, so we took a few pictures inside instead. I think we'll take some outside/bluebonnet pictures tomorrow if the weather is nice! :)
Enjoy!

Poor Baby

After Mason's shots yesterday his legs were sore (3 shotslast night and would cry whenever we touched his legs. Today he is running a 99.8 degree fever. The poor thing is tired, cranky, constipated, sore and hungry all at the same time. Obviously just not feeling well! :( He didnt have any of these symptoms after his first round of shots 2 months ago, but I've heard the symptoms can vary each time. For a baby who is happy 99% of the time, today was just no good for him! We went to an early dinner with Erin & Eric and while on the way home I was sitting in the back with Mason & all of sudden had the worst pouty look on his face (big frown, pouty lip, eyes welled up with tears) I think i've only seen this face TWICE in 4 months- he just looks at me with the most sad face ever! It just made me want to cry!! All i could do was hug him and kiss him all over...which of course leads to smiles and giggles, so he started the laugh, cry, laugh, cry thing where he didnt know if he wanted to laugh or cry, so he did both! lol Poor babe, hopefully he feels better tomorrow, Baby Tylenol and Mommy kisses can only do so much!

Starting Cereal!

So we got the green light to start solids! We talked it over with the pediatrician since most people start solids between 4-6 months. He said he felt Mason was really ready for solid foods, he GRINDS on his paci, everything goes in the mouth, and he's doing really good with sitting up supported. Dr. Ohman also said it might help him sleep longer & better at night with keeping him fuller. He drinks about 30 oz a day right now, even though he's full, he acts like its just not satasfying enough. SO we started him on some cereal and he LOVED it! At first he was just more interesting in chewing on the spoon, then we made the cereal just a little bit thicker and it perked his interest! He's got the chewing thing down pretty darn good! So we'll see how he sleeps! (crossing fingers!)

For your viewing pleasure!

I realized I havent posted many pictures of Mason in the past week- so I thought I'd post some cute ones of him. I'm PATIENTLY waiting for some pictures that Gavin needs to upload from Easter, the ducks, and the crazy hail we had tonight!

4 Month Check up!

We went to Mason's 4 month check up and it went really good! He barely cried when he got his 3 shots, I was so proud of him! He weighed in at 15 lbs 5 oz (which puts him at 50th percentile-average- for his weight) and 26 1/4" for height! (75% for height!) Doc said he's very healthy and really strong! Mason is curling/pulling up like he wants to sit up and sits up really good supported like on my lap. For the past few weeks i know he's been rolling over (from back to tummy) i just havent witnessed it yet! Well today he decided to show off and rolled over RIGHT there on the table for Gavin, Dr. Ohman & I! i was so proud of him! He started rolling over from tummy to back at 10 weeks, so I've been waiting a while to see him roll the other way! I was so proud of him! Another milestone met! :)

New Residents

we woke up on Wednesday morning to find a Momma Duck & 10 babies in our Pool! we thought it was cool, but then again this isnt a good home for them, they need to be in a pond with other ducks and proper food for them. So i called animal control so they can move the ducks. Come to find out the duck comes back every year to nest in the yard behind us, and the owner seems to really like it, because she wouldnt let animal control in her back yard to get the ducks (they were in her yard at the time of day) Well, sad to say- 9 of the babies DIDNT make it because of her arrogance. 3 were killed by the doberman next door (cant blame the dog, its their instinct) 3 drown in our pool (not sure how that happened, we turned the pump off and everything) and we think another 3 were stuck on the other side of the fence without their mom and that's bad news for the babies. So now there's only 1 left with the momma in our yard. Shelby has learned to not chase them and just let them be. (it took the dumb dog 10 minutes to even notice them in the pool the other morning- she didnt notice them until I was out there taking pictures of them! LOL) she wouldnt be a good hunting dog for sure!
the poor momma duck lost so many of her babies, 9 out of 10 of them! :( makes me sad- if the lady behind us likes to see them hatch each year, that great, but they dont seem to survive, so whats the POINT??? Everyone keeps telling us that we should have thrown the dead baby ducks from our pool into her yard. (maybe we did, maybe we didnt!) ;-P

Things that change #3- Sleep

Yes, there's sleep deprivation with having ANY child, and no they dont come out sleeping thru the night. but thats not what my post is about. Its more about sleeping with your husband. NOT that kind of sleeping. get your mind outta the gutter. I'm talking about REAL sleep.
Its the oddest thing I realized last night while laying in bed trying to fall back asleep at 4 am.
I cannot fall asleep if Gavin gets into bed BEFORE ME. his breathing/sleeping pattern followed by the occassional snort THROWS me off and I cant fall asleep. when we first got married we'd always go to bed at the same time. And on nights he'd be out late at the carwash (yes you read right, the carwash- its his 'personal' and down time to think aparently) when i would have to go to sleep by myself, i wouldnt sleep very good when he wasnt home.
Well, then i just got used to it after 3 years now. Gosh, for the past year i think theres maybe only a handful of times we've gone to bed at the same time (mostly because of Mason now) Gavin tends to stay up later (he's a night owl) and feeds Mason if he wakes up before Gavin heads to bed. I go to bed around 11 (try to, tends to be midnight though) and I can fall asleep pretty quick (when by myself and the dog) I get up with Mason for his 6 am feeding, so going to bed earlier is a must for me.
Now after last night- Mason wanted his Paci at 4 am so i got up put it back in his mouth & went back to bed. Crap, i couldnt fall asleep for 20 minutes or so! ugh....all because Gavin was already asleep.
I find this discovery REALLY wierd, why cant i fall asleep if he's already asleep? Maybe i'm jealous he's already asleep. Tonight if i have to get back up, I think I'll wake up GAVIN just so I can then fall asleep first! ha!

Thing #2 that changes after pregnancy

YOUR DIET.

Who KNEW I'd like things that i would NEVER eat before being pregnant??
Here's a list of things I wouldn't ever eat and didn't like to eat before being pregnant- but now do!

1. Tamales (never liked them before, but i LOVE THEM NOW!)
2. McDonald's CHicken nuggets (they always grossed me out because they are the same 2 shapes, but now I prefer them!)
3. Hamburgers. Never been a fan of fast food burgers, especially McDonalds or Whataburger, but Now i get my occasional fixin' (I craved them while pg sadly)
4. Oddly enough, I now prefer protein (meat) over carbs. Maybe for once in my dieting life, i can succeed at the Southbeach diet (AHAHAHAHAHA right.)
5. Chocolate. Never been a fan of chocolate. now i kinda like it. but in very small portions.
6. Ranch dressing. I never understood people who can put it on everything. now i do, i dont like it on everything, just pizza, boneless wings, chicken & veggies) I've actually become rather PICKY about my ranch dressing now too!
7. Wings. No i still wont eat meat on a bone- but i will eat boneless wings. LOVE them now. forget the fries or potatoes, just give me the wings dang it! (with ranch dressing please.)
8. ANYTHING SPICY. i've always liked spicy food- problem was I craved it while being pregnant, and now its sort of like a really bad addiction. Sure my intestines are telling me to back away from the spicy hooters sauce to pour over my chicken, but dang does it go down good. I have also learned that Beer does not cool down spicy food, no matter the quantity. only ranch dressing helps.

Sad to say, now reading my post- I need to start working out again - dont get me wrong, i DO eat better than this, it just doesnt sound so good when typing it out! HA!

Things REALLY changes after pregnancy

yah sure they all say "oh just wait your life will never be the same" sure yah, bla bla bla (no really it IS great, believe me) but thats not what i'm talking about with changes.
WHO knew I'd get so excited over a stupid DIAPER BAG? before Mason, i'd get excited over a new purse or earrings, or a shirt. but now, no its a diaper bag! (and the LAST ONE i'm buying! LOL) Seriously, i ordered this diaper bag on Sunday and i have been so patiently waiting for it to arrive. Yesterday, it came in a day early (yes, i had been tracking it on UPS' wesbite sadly enough) and it was like opening a gift at Christmas time! I even sported it around the house for a few minutes while Gavin looked at me like I was the most retarded Mom in the world. Maybe I am, but I love my new diaper bag! Yes, Sara I know..another diaper bag? You know you do it too....you'll go thru a few bags before finding the 'right' one! LOL Gosh, Amy uses the one that coordinates with her outfit that day! LOL
So honestly- how many diaperbags do I have?
well, lets see....
last summer we (me) bought the first baby related item. well it wasnt really baby related (it was INTENDED for baby) it was my 'supposed' to be diaper bag i bought from Coach, yeah, i think i used it 3 times. BUT thats because i was GIVEN a better one. (so the coach bag has been demoted to work bag!) So that is diaper bag #1.
#2- the beautiful dark red quilted diaper Bag Mel gave me from Potterybarn kids- I think i used that one the longest so far!
#3- the black gently used bag i bought from a consignment sale. i like it for all the compartments, but its kind of bulky, and i'm not all for bulky. (i bought it for a whole $12!!)
#4- Sara made me a bag for a Hostess Gift for her Baby Shower. Its more like a sachel i guess. Sorry Sara, it works better for me as a "Market" bag when i go to the DMC and can hold all the catalogs I get!
So my new sling backpack diaper bag from Potterybarn kids will be #5- but see, i didnt buy ALL those bags, only 3 of them....so i guess that makes me feel better!
I have another one that Amy bought me in hong kong last summer its the knock off 'Juicy Couture" bag, but i have yet to use it! LOL

Coordinating Maternity Leaves....

Not many of my friends stay at home with their kids, majority of them have full time jobs, okay not most of them, really ALL of them. I'm kind of sad, Amy goes back to work on Thursday. I've enjoyed our shopping trips, lunches and mid-day chats on the phone (you dont get that with a teacher!) thankfully only about 6 weeks left until she's out for the summer. THANKFULLY, Sara is scheduled to pop out her little one in less than 2 weeks from now, so then i'll have another friend on maternity leave! YEAH! i just wish she didnt live in Oklahoma...i mean Little Elm! haha! hm.....somebody else needs to get pregnant! (Jes, Gina, Erin, Analisa....? any takers???? hahah!)

Easter & 4 Months!

Today Mason is 4 months old! It's also Easter! We had a really nice day, the 3 of us went to church yesterday evening, and we ended up all 3 sleeping in late this morning. I'm tellin' yah, if we bring Mason into bed with us, he'll sleep as long as we do! LOL not sure how long that will last, but it's nice for us for now! This afternoon we went to my parents house & Amy cooked a wonderful Easter lunch for us (my family, the babies, Gavin's Family & Grandparents) after we filled our bellies we came back home & vegged for a bit & played with Mason before bed. Tomorrow is an early start since Gavin has Jury Duty (yuck!) and I'm going to try & start getting up early again to get Mason on an earlier schedule (he's been staying up later & later on his own).
The Easter bunny (Granpa Bardin) brought Mason his first Easter Basket with a blue bunny inside and candy (which mom will end up eating.) Now with having a baby and coming around to all these different holidays makes me think of how we're going to raise Mason & teach him about the more important meanings behind the holidays rather than the kid friendly characters that tend to override the Christian meanings. Also makes me think of Easter & real the real meaning- which for some reason makes me sad. It should be God's greatest holiday because his son has risen! At the same time, now having a son of my own makes me wonder and think that God sacrificied his most precious creation and had to see him suffer in such a way ALL for US. I think that (actually i KNOW) that I am too selfish, and I could NEVER sacrifice Mason- he's such a true blessing, and I think I could definitely sacrifice every material item in my life, but never him. Makes me think, gosh, if God did that for me, he must REALLY truely LOVE ME more than I could ever know! now THATS something to really try and measure!

Bath Time has become Battle Time!

For the past month now Mason has figured out kicking the bath water is fun. Bath time has now become 'lets kick out all the bath water possible and soak Mom!" I try and make bath time for him quick and simple, but he's now decided its more fun to make it difficult for me! haha! Seriously by the end of his bathtime (which is less than 10 minutes!) he's kicked out and splashed so much of the water, there's only inches left in his little bathtub, at least he really enjoys his bathtime I guess! He's so cute when he kicks and splashes at me, he thinks he's SO VERY funny...Gavin says he gets that trait from me! LOL

17 weeks this week!

(if my math is right!) He'll be 4 months old on Easter!
Here's a cute picture of him playing in his crib yesterday, he was super tired & was almost his bedtime, but i still got a little smile! I think he looks alot like me in this picture for some reason- those are my eyes for sure! :)

Texas Weather!

You've gotta love Texas Weather! Mason & I came home from the store tonight & it started getting kinda dark, but not night time dark yet. The clouds turned SO dark, and the sky was turning green and shades of red in some places! it was SO cool. I let Mason play for a bit in his crib so I went outside before the storm really hit to get some neat pictures of the clouds & sky. I looked up and there was a HUGE cloud rotation RIGHT above my house (all of a sudden Wizard of Oz came to mind, I really thought a tornado might drop right down and suck my house up in the sky!) but luckily the clouds blew southeast pretty quick, I think we only got a few drops of rain and a REALLY cool lightning show!

Crazy Kid...

So we've been patiently waiting for this growth spurt that is supposed to happen around 4 months. i think it hit with a big bang yesterday! Mason has been eating 4 oz every 3-4 hours and we've been trying to get him to drink more at each feeding so he'll sleep longer at night..it FINALLY came! Yesterday he did his usual feedings, except his evening eating went something like this...
5 pm- drank 5 Oz.
6:30 pm- drank 3 oz.
8:30 pm- drank 5 oz. (then went to bed)
Woke back up at 10 pm and drank 4 oz! holy cow! the kid gulped down 17 oz in 5 hours time! lol so I'm guessing this could be that growth spurt. I heard him wake up at 12:30, Gavin tried to feed him but he didnt eat and just went back to bed. So then he was up at 5 for his bottle as usual- so I really think we're on the verge of sleeping thru the night! HORRAY!

Funny thing he's been doing- since now Mason has the freedom of his crib, he scoots around it like a crazy man. His kick pad piano sits at one end of the crib (flush up against the side) so at 5 am and again at 9 am this morning when I've gone in there to get him, he's turned around and scooted all the way down the crib and is kicking at his piano (thankfully it wasnt turned on!!) The funny look on his face was classic- he's sayin, "look Mom what I can do! haha!" SMARTYPANTS!

Another Post w/No pix...

I know, I know...where are the pictures?? Sorry folks, 3rd post in a row with no pictures of cute Mason! I'll pull out the camera today! We've just been busy! Mostly work stuff for me, we're in the middle of peak season right now, so when I'm not working, it's Mason I'm with!
He's been sleeping better, still not completely thru the night, but it has seemed better the past few nights..he seems like he's getting closer to dropping that middle of the night bottle, last night he slept from 9 pm to 2 am, had 2 bottles back to back, then slept til 7 am this morning, had his morning bottle and then decided to sleep again til 9:30 AM! HOLY COW! i loved it- I even got to sleep in and I was up before Mason was! woohoo! I really like that he can sleep in if we want to, obviously not til 11 am (Gavin's idea of waking up on time) but 9:30 am is GOOD for me! I've definitely been sleeping WAY better too, I feel really good, i get that deep sound sleep with him in his room and I know he sleeps better too. Yah no more sleep deprivation...I would probably be even better if I went to bed earlier too! haha!
His napping has changed too, for a while there it seemed to be 45 min to 1 hour naps, several a day, now it seems he takes a LONG nap in the early afternoon. He doesnt nap so well when we're out, noise seems to bother him & keeps his attention and he just wants to see everything!, but then he gets overtired and thats no good. He naps best when we're at home, the past few days now he's been napping 2-3 hours & then another 1 hour nap late in the day. So there's good and bad with it I guess, I feel like a homebody, but then again I can get alot done at home at the same time (such as blog....and do all my computer work!) So i just have to coordinate when I need to run errands around his nap schedule, so either in the morning or late afternoon. I hear at 6 months is when it changes again and they're awake for longer stretches at a time then...so 2 more months and then we're there! Mr. Mason will be 4 months old on Easter- I cant believe it! This week I also took out the foam incline in his crib, and he's figured out how to scoot all around his crib at night too!
We'll get some new pictures up this week! I promise! :)
